How much does it cost to change a cylinder?
The total is materials + labour + call-out (plus a surcharge if it’s a night or holiday emergency). The material makes the difference:
Standard cylinder
A basic brass cylinder with a toothed key. Fine for interior doors, stores or where security isn’t critical.
Anti-bump cylinder
Protection against bumping and picking, dimple key. The minimum recommended for a front door. Best security/price ratio.
High security
Anti-bump, anti-drill, anti-extraction and an uncopiable key with an ownership card. For main entrances, second homes and premises.
Extras that matter
Special or long sizes, an inner thumbturn, keying several doors alike, or more key copies than included.
Always ask for the cylinder to sit flush with the escutcheon: a protruding cylinder can be snapped with a wrench in seconds, however expensive it is.
Does the price include the keys?
Yes, every cylinder comes with its copies (usually 3 to 5 by model). Extra copies of protected keys are ordered with the ownership card.
Is it more expensive if you come as an emergency?
A scheduled change in working hours is cheaper than a small-hours emergency, as with any service. The general factors are on the prices page.
Is a high-security cylinder worth it?
On a main-home or second-home front door, yes: it’s the part that takes the most attacks. We explain it without pressure at security locks.
